Established in 1963, Santa Fe Tow Service was originally derived from a bodyshop, with a single tow truck that was used to bring wrecks into the shop. Twenty-three years ago, Jonathan Kupchin, at seventeen years of age, took over that tow truck and started towing wrecks for the bodyshop. Jon was the only driver for the first year of operation, until he soon realized how much he enjoyed towing vehicles and decided to grow. Santa Fe Tow Service has grown steadily over the past twenty-three years into a very successful business with 43 trucks in operation, 52 employees, a brand new 9000 square foot building with a 5 acre lot, and 3 impound lots. The bodyshop is still going strong today too, and is now owned by Jon's brother.
The company was named Santa Fe Tow Service because the operation was set up right behind the Santa Fe Trail. This historic road was primarily used as a commercial highway connecting Missouri and Santa Fe, New Mexico, until 1846, when the Mexican-American War began. Santa Fe Trail was used to carry soldiers in the West to invade New Mexico until 1848, when the war was ended.
